Yes. Upgrade or downgrade any time from your billing page. We pro-rate the difference, and your data — your site, your leads, your jobs, your QMS registers — carries across untouched.
Manufacturers and grant schemes pay us a rebate when an install completes through FreeMCS. That covers our costs, so installers don't have to. The Free tier gives you the same MCS:2025-compliant calc engine, the same PDFs, and the same Bob AI as paying customers.
There is no catch. The rebate model is the business model — and it only works if you actually use the system, which means we're incentivised to make it genuinely useful.
No. FreeMCS is open to any UK renewable heat or solar installer, including firms working towards their first certification. You get Website, Leads and Jobs from day one.
The QMS (Quality Management System) — the 13 MCS:2025 registers and the audit pack — is gated behind your own MCS number because it represents your firm's compliance evidence. If you don't hold one yet, you work under an umbrella body's QMS, which you choose. Your own QMS unlocks the moment you add your certification number in Settings.
MCS certification is issued to your firm by an approved certification body after a technical audit. Your MCS number is the identifier (e.g. NAP-XXXX). It is verifiable fact — not a level we can sell to you.
FreeMCS reads that status and gates accordingly. The reason is honesty: a QMS that claims to belong to an uncertified firm is worthless compliance evidence. So we show it only when it's real. Certification-ready, never a faked badge.
No long-term contract. You can cancel Free, Solo or Team at any time, no minimum term. If you downgrade from a paid tier mid-month you keep access until the end of the billing period.
Bob is the AI gaffer across all four pillars — Website, Leads, Jobs and QMS. He writes your site copy, qualifies your leads, drafts the heat-loss design and assembles your MCS pack. He works from your real records, not invented data.
But there is no "sign for me" button. Every compliance sign-off — from a commissioning certificate to a register entry — is a human action that you take deliberately. This is by design, and it is not something we will change. The system is built so it physically cannot certify anything on your behalf.
An umbrella body is an MCS-certified firm that lets sub-contractors operate under its certification number while they build towards their own. Common examples include trade associations and specialist umbrella services.
In FreeMCS, you link your account to the umbrella you've contracted with. The jobs you run contribute to their QMS evidence (which the umbrella manages). You get the full Website, Leads and Jobs pillar. When you achieve your own MCS number, your own QMS unlocks automatically and your historical job evidence is already there.
Prices shown are exclusive of VAT. £0, £39.99 and £79.99 are net figures. UK VAT (currently 20%) is added at checkout for UK-based firms. If your firm is VAT-registered you can reclaim it in the normal way.
